How to maximize space in a small bathroom

Posted on August 13, 2019 by admin

Bathrooms are the part of the house where space is less exploited. For this reason, we give you tips on how to maximize the space in a small bathroom.

Knowing how to maximize the space in a small bathroom is necessary if you, like most people, have a small bathroom.

Having a small bathroom doesn’t mean you can’t tastefully decorate it. That’s why we give you tips for saving usable space in this part of the house, find out how to maximize the space in a small bathroom!

How to maximize space in a small bathroom

1. Shower tray and tiles

If you don’t know how to maximize space in a small bathroom, we recommend that you first choose to put in a shower instead of a bathtub. Putting a bathtub in a small room will make the space seem even smaller. The shower tray occupies a much smaller space and will leave space available to decorate your bathroom, or simply to move more freely.

As for the tiles, we recommend that you choose some of them that are large in size so that they give the room a greater sense of space. This feeling is given by the fact that the escape of the tiles is minimized and will give the impression that the space is larger.

2. Mirrors

Mirrors in small spaces increase the feeling of width and light due to reflection. The ideal thing is to use a large, borderless mirror to reflect as much light as possible.

If you need space to store bathroom accessories, you can use a mirror instead of the cabinet door that you place above the washbasin. In this way, it will perform two functions in a practical and simple way: it will function as a mirror and locker for storing objects for personal hygiene.

3. Under-basin furniture

A suspended under-basin unit takes up less space than one that goes all the way to the floor and thus makes the space appear larger. Clearly it will be less roomy because of the space that is lost, there are, however, other ways to store the accessories for your bathroom so as not to occupy space that can be used differently.

4. Sliding windows and doors

A very simple option for saving space is to use sliding windows and doors instead of conventional ones. This way, the space needed to open the door can be used without hindering the opening and closing of the door.

5. Drawers and cabinets

Drawer cabinets and closets take up a lot of space. So, if you’re wondering how to maximize the space in a small bathroom while keeping the furniture you need to store your tablecloths, there are various solutions:

  • Use furniture and cupboards without handles. There are pieces of furniture that can be opened by placing and pressing your hand on the bottom of the drawer.
  • As far as cabinets are concerned, we recommend that you choose them without doors, as is the case with the windows and sliding doors mentioned above, which will help you to save space and avoid knocking against the doors.
  • Separators inside the drawers: very often the objects we store in the bathroom drawers are mixed together. So use separators, create compartments and make sure that your objects do not move inside the drawers, always remaining in order.
  • If the drawers and cabinets you have are not enough to hold all the objects you want to put in, you can use the crocheted bags that you can hang with hangers or hooks that hang from the wall.

6. Renounce the superfluous

To maximize the space in a small bathroom is necessary to avoid the use of any unnecessary object, you can choose a different place for these types of objects or maybe you can avoid using them throughout the house.

First of all, let’s talk about the washing machine. In many homes, the washing machine is in the bathroom, which is actually an element to avoid in order to save space.

Although the washing machine is an absolutely necessary object in the house, it can be placed in other rooms of the house. The bidet is another important element that you can only use in the bathroom, but it is not essential. For this reason, if the space does not allow it, we recommend you to give up on having one.

7. Light colours

By choosing the right colours you can give the impression that your bathroom is larger. White, beige, light grey and ecru colours will make the room look brighter.

In many new houses, the bathroom has no windows, so the only light is artificial. In this case, the right choice of colours will be even more important to give your bathroom a sense of spaciousness.
